Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for… I think Sweet Memories Photography and I might have outdone ourselves this Halloween! We started a tradition 3 years ago taking cute costumed photos of #dailybocaavery. Then, we added in my nephew Aden after he was born– it’s a fun (but tiring) process. Boca Raton photographer, Naomi Phelps, and I scout locations, get the kids dolled up (with the help of my sister of course). Then, we basically bribe them to pose adorably for the camera. Hey- gotta do it for the ‘gram! Avery informed me back in March that she wanted to be Anne, the trapeze artist from The Greatest Showman, for Halloween. I think it was the pink hair. Maybe Zac Efron. Of course, no such costume exists on Amazon. So, I had to somehow “Rewrite the Stars” and create a DIY Greatest Showman costume for her. And obviously, Avery convinced her aunt to turn Aden into a tiny ringmaster to match.
Here are the adorable results! {And continue reading below to see how you can dress your child up as “Anne / Zendaya” too}
2018 Halloween Photo Shoot at Sugar Sand Park
For the “hoop”, we purchased a hula hoop and sprayed it gold. Easy! Thanks Modern Boca Dad!
Special thanks to Sugar Sand Park for approving my permit for the Carousel. It was the most perfect “circus” backdrop for our DIY Greatest Showman costume photo shoot!
How to Create a DIY Greatest Showman Costume
Struggling with how to turn your child into Anne / Zendaya? I was too.
- First, I searched for a lookalike costume. The main thing #dailybocaavery wanted were the “Anne arm bands.” This dance costume ended up being pretty darn close!

2. She already owned nude tights and ballet shoes, so I didn’t need to purchase those. So, my next challenge was the PINK HAIR. I couldn’t find any wigs that were her size, so I decided to watch a YouTube tutorial, curl, pin, spray and hope for the best! It actually turned out quite beautiful.
How to Create Greatest Showman Inspired Hair – Anne Zendaya | Step By Step
- Section off the front crown and pin/tie out of the way.
- Curl the entire head with a 1 inch barrel curling iron. Let curls cool.
- Pin up messy curls one by one so they are completely off your child’s neck. This requires twirling the curls around your fingers and many, many bobby pins.
- Then, take the front pieces, curl halfway up the ends, twist and pin back into the existing messy curls. Make sure you leave the “Anne Swoop” in tact across the front of the forehead. This is key!
- After hair is hair sprayed sufficiently, put your child in your shower or take them outside and spray the whole ‘do pink with this temporary hair color spray (I promise it washes right out!):
