Meet the Boca Raton Prepared Meal Delivery Service that Finally Got It Right

Earlier this summer, I was faced with a culinary conundrum. Modern Boca Dad was heading out of town for a wedding. So, I had to figure out how to feed myself and our daughter (on my own) for 5 days. Most moms might not see that as a big deal, but here’s the issue: I’m an awful cook. Sure, I can burn toast and pasta, but that’s about the extent of my expertise in the kitchen. Luckily, I found a Boca Raton prepared meal delivery service called My Pure Life. It not only offers healthy, prepared meals and snacks for adults, but for children as well. I figured it was the perfect time to give them a shot!

Spa Celebration at Eau Palm Beach: Perfect for Any Occasion

When my sister and I met up for coffee last month, we realized our mom had a big birthday coming up…and fast. It wasn’t just any ol’ birthday either– it was her 65th! A very special day. We knew our mom didn’t want a party and couldn’t get away for a trip (unfortunately), so we decided to officially dub June 3rd “Mormor Day” and whisk her away for a spa celebration at Eau Palm Beach Resort!

Who or what is a Mormor, you ask? Mormor is “mother’s mother” in Swedish and what my daughter calls her grandmother. The nickname has spread like wildfire throughout my family and now, no one calls her anything but that. 🙂

How to Savor Spring Evenings in Boca Raton with Your Family

Longer days and lighter evenings are here, which means it’s time to move those dinners outdoors!  With the recent ‘spring forward’, we gained an extra hour of daylight in the evenings…even though it was a brutal week getting used to that time change. Here are some ways to make the most of springtime with your family PLUS a great deal for MBM readers to help celebrate the minted 9 year Anniversary!

  1. Backyard BBQ’s

Spend less time in the kitchen and take the cooking out back! One of the things I love about grilling is that I can hand off dinner to my husband and let him handle the main course! Whether it be as simple as hot dog and hamburgers, or gourmet salmon with grilled veggies, the options are endless. Keep the kids entertained with easy backyard games like cornhole or kickball.

  1. Sundowners at the Beach

The beach isn’t just for mornings or afternoons. Head over there with your family before sunset for a “Sundowner”. The kids can run around and play in the ocean or sand, while mom and dad enjoy some time together outdoors. Invite other families and pack some Naked Wines and cheese to make an event out of it!

  1. Picnic at the Playground

Pack up your dinner and take it to the park! Choose foods that are easy to set out and fuss free to eat such as pasta salad or sandwiches. Your kids will love the extra play time, and you’ll love tiring them out before bed!

The minted 9 year Anniversary Event has some amazing, fresh options for spring…and they’re all on sale!

Think about it– when was the last time you changed up the art in your living room?

Minted’s Anniversary Event is a great opportunity to get a deep discount on Minted Fine Art in particular, which they rarely offer at anything other than full price. This spring, refresh a creative space in your home or start building out that gallery wall!

Revel in the St. Patrick’s Day Spirit with The Fresh Market

It’s that time of year again, to don the green attire and celebrate the luck of the Irish with a wee bit of tasty fun! To help its guests get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit, The Fresh Market will offer samplings of Irish soda bread, Kerrygold Cheese, pretzels and more through March 17th!

For those looking to create a hearty Irish meal at home, The Fresh Market suggests its Irish Cottage Pie recipe. Traditionally topped with a thick layer of creamy mashed potatoes, the specialty grocer’s delicious recipe saves a few steps by topping the comforting casserole with thinly sliced potatoes and shredded cheese.

Fresh Market Irish Cottage Pie

Fresh Market Irish Cottage Pie

Serves 6-8

Ingredients:
1.5 lb. ground sirloin
3 tbsp. Kerrygold Unsalted Butter
1 tbsp. The Fresh Market Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 c. sweet onion, chopped (about ½ large onion)
2 celery ribs, chopped
2 c. carrots, peeled and diced (about 2 large carrots)
2 tsp. kosher salt
½ tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1 tbsp. garlic, minced
1 tbsp. tomato paste
5 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 ½ c. The Fresh Market Beef Stock
1 c. Guinness
1 tsp. fresh rosemary, chopped
1 tsp. fresh thyme leaves
2 bay leaves
1 c. The Fresh Market Frozen Green Peas
1 ½ lbs. red potatoes
1 c. Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese, shredded

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Heat a Dutch oven or a large, wide skillet over medium high heat. Add beef and cook until crumbled and no longer pink. Drain beef of any excess grease and transfer to plate.

Add olive oil and butter to the same pan.  Once the butter melts, add onion, celery, carrots, salt and pepper and sauté until vegetables begin to soften and brown, about 7-10 minutes. Add garlic and tomato paste and cook until garlic is fragrant, about 3 minutes.

Reduce heat to medium and add flour, stirring constantly for 1 minute. Vegetable mixture will become very thick. Whisk in beef stock, beer, rosemary, thyme and bay leaves.  Use a wooden spoon to scrape any bits from the bottom of the pan.

Stir in beef and peas. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook 7-10 minutes. While mixture simmers and thickens, thinly slice red potatoes (the thinner the better).

Spoon mixture into a 10 x 13” or 10 inch round baking dish, both at least 2 inches deep. Top with sliced potatoes, heavily overlapping each. Sprinkle cheese evenly over potatoes. Cover dish loosely with aluminum foil and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, remove foil and return to oven for additional 30 minutes or until pie is bubbling and potatoes are nicely browned.

Remove from oven and allow to rest a minimum of 20 minutes before serving.

Enjoy!

Why I Love Taking Houseguests to BRIO Boca Raton

Tis the season for house guests, MBMoms! Well, at least it is for us, having lived in NYC for ten years and with #modernbocadad’s family being from New England. We enjoy having everyone come down and it gives us a great excuse to go out to eat! One of our favorite places is BRIO, located in Boca Center (which is pretty ‘sceney’ and fun for locals and visitors) and quite delicious. The NEW BRIO Boca Raton menu is top notch!

BRIO Tuscan Grille is bringing new seasonal flavors to its guests with the “Flavorful Features” menu, available daily on the dinner menu. We experienced the WHOLE. DARN. THING. and it was worth it.  🙂

  • Butterscotch Budino: Italian for “pudding,” this dish features Marcona almonds, caramel, and vanilla whipped cream ($3.95)

Per the recommendation of our awesome waiter, we ended up trying most of the dessert “samplers” and favorites on the menu.  We couldn’t say no to chocolate and cheesecake!

The perfect complements to the “Flavorful Features” are delicious wines and cocktails. These include:

  • Benzinger Family Wintery Chardonnay: A lush and silky wine (Sonoma, California) ($9.95/glass)

BRIO Boca Raton also has some great cocktails! We thoroughly enjoyed their take on a “Moscow Mule” and a margarita.
