Having my daughter was one of the happiest days of my life. It was honestly also one of the scariest. First babies are terrifying, aren’t they? Since then, even though Boca mom life has had its challenges, I haven’t had any majorly “scary” days…until recently.
The Scariest Day of my Boca Mom Life…so far…
You might have read about my recent thermography scan with The Wise Women’s Sanctuary. That post was rather personal and I didn’t post every picture from the scan. But, I felt compelled to share my experience with you. Now, I’d like to share what happened next.
“There looks like there could be a few trouble spots in your left breast. I’ll send in a prescription for a mammogram and breast ultrasound for you. Please make an appointment ASAP,” said my OB over the phone.
My heart sank. I had to sit down. I thought: I’m 33 and I need to go get a mammogram??
So, I called the Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute and made an appointment for the following week. I tried to put it out of my mind. I had a summer vacation to plan and work to finish, so I could enjoy most of July out of state with my family (I try to avoid Boca mom life when it’s that hot out…)
What if I have cancer?
Of course I thought that. It was one of my first thoughts. When something shows up on a medical scan or test as concerning, your mind goes to the worst possible place. I was just grateful at that point to have gotten the Thermography scan in the first place.
I went to my appointment at the Lynn Women’s Institute (Boca mom life indeed– that place is really fancy), signed in and donned my paper dressing gown/top and headed in to the waiting room to wait my turn.
I was easily the youngest person there, which only added to my anxiety.
First up: mammogram. The technician looked at me funny and kept asking me why I was there. YEAH, I’M WONDERING THAT MYSELF TOO LADY.
Test results: Negative.
Next up: breast ultrasound. This time, I showed the technician my Thermography scan images, so she could target the areas that my OB was concerned about.
Test results: Negative.
I have never been more relieved in my life.
You better believe I’ll be getting future Thermography scans to monitor any changes in my body. And, I highly recommend the ladies at The Wise Women’s Sanctuary to take care of you. I kept them apprised every step of this terrifying process and they were so supportive and understanding.
Without your health, you have nothing. Be sure to take the time to take care of you.
xo,
Modern Boca Mom
