Picture this: you’re completely weightless in a spaceship-esque tank filled with salt water that’s the same temperature as the surface of your skin. There’s a complete lack of visual and auditory stimulation. For 90 minutes, you’re alone…meditating in the space of your own mind. Sound great? Or sound scary? Honestly, the thought of having close to two hours to myself floating in a dark and silent tub sounded pretty intimidating when I first heard about float therapy in Deerfield Beach at Float8 Wellness Lounge. The good news is that I LOVED IT.
Floatation therapy is an alternative health and wellness treatment that reduces stress and offers holistic pain relief by restricting sensory input to the brain. By removing light, sound, and the effects of gravity, floaters reach a deep level of mental and physical relaxation which is ideal for healing and meditation.
But seriously, when in the heck was I going to carve out 2 hours to indulge in a “float” in my busy mom life? Not to mention the time it takes to prepare yourself pre and post-float therapy in Deerfield Beach. I’m glad I let co-founder, Destiny Beck, convince me to try it out. And to her point, self care is important. Moms need to take the time to relax!
Located 10-15 minutes south of Boca Raton, Float8 Wellness Lounge is pretty convenient to get to and the first of its kind in South Florida having multiple float tanks. Each holds 10” of heated water that is supersaturated with 1,000 lbs of Epsom salt. This creates a dense solution that is more buoyant than the Dead Sea and allows your body to float with zero effort. Just don’t drink coffee before you go. I made that mistake during my second float… #whoops
Float Therapy in Deerfield Beach: Tips & Tricks from MBMom
- Decide whether you plan to float in a swimsuit or in the nude. With the level of salt in the tank, I would recommend baring it all.
- Don’t do your hair or makeup before you go! You’ll need to shower and wash your hair pre and post-float. Just bring a change of clothes and some makeup/hair tools. Blow dryers and plenty of towels are available for guests.
- Consider trying out their Intro3 package. Just like going to the gym or yoga class, floating has a cumulative effect and may require a few visits to fully let go.
- If you’re claustrophobic, don’t worry! You can leave the tank open a bit and the light on as long as you need to get comfortable.
- Don’t rub your eyes when you’re in the tank. Salt burns.
