MOMpreneur: n. defined as a female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur.
Welcome to our next installment of MOMpreneur Monday, highlighting Florida businesses and brands that were founded by female entrepreneurs and fellow Mommas.
Today’s featured Modern Boca MOMpreneur is...Tara Benson Kebre, founder of Boca Raton Counseling Center South Florida!
Tell us a little bit about your background and what inspired you to start your business…
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Boca Raton, Florida. While I maintain a private practice, my full time job is being a devoted mother to our incredible 2 year son Nolan.
Practicing psychotherapy has allowed me to pursue both my personal and professional endeavors. I knew I wanted to major in Psychology in undergrad where I also happened to meet my husband. We were living in Los Angeles, both working in the Entertainment industry. I know, a shocker right?
It wasn’t long before we found that career path to be unfulfilling. We had both studied Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at different graduate schools. So after graduation, we got married, did field work in Los Angeles and then I became pregnant with our son. Shortly after, we moved to Boca where my immediate and extended family resides. I took some time off to enjoy pregnancy and Nolan’s first year of life.
Then, I got back into my career by facilitating group therapy at a women’s only treatment center in Lake Worth. I was there only once per week but I knew that I was making a difference. The feeling I left with every session further inspired me.
How did Boca Raton Counseling Center South Florida start?
My husband and I opened up Boca Raton Counseling Center, a private practice in East Boca Raton, based on the principles and values of our methodology: authenticity. The field of mental health poses many challenges for clinicians, often getting in the way of client care first. Insurance companies and corporate politics are just a few of the roadblocks that we face.
We want Boca Raton Counseling Center to be your rehab for life and to create a space for people to find their purpose and uncover their passions. Our clients should feel the genuine care that we feel for them and their families. We believe that for every pro bono case we see, a paying client will follow. This is how we operate– we see people from all walks of life. We know what it’s like to be on the other side of the couch.
What’s unique about your services and why should MBMom readers become your clients?
We are very excited about offering gender specific support groups and being a part of the process with our clients. I most recently started a motherhood group for moms that just need a space to BE. We are a generation of doers, go go go, and there is very little room for just being.

This group provides moms with the time, space and group support that they so deserve. It is in this setting that I get to wear both my hats, a therapist and a mother, all in one.
What do you love about living and working in South Florida?
We love living in South Florida! Our son is two and already swinging a golf club! We look forward to serving Boca Raton and growing into a community center that provides quality mental health treatment to our clients.
