Today’s featured MOMpreneur is…Heather Rouffe, a partner at one of the largest rental companies in South Florida, Atlas Party Rental.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your professional background…
I began my career in the non-profit world, working for the United Way of Broward County. I eventually accepted a position handling the fundraising and events for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
It was this step that led me to Atlas Event Rental where I took over the sales department and eventually became a partner in this family-owned rental business.
What challenges did you face when transitioning to partner?
Atlas Event Rental (formerly Atlas Party Rental) was founded in 1984 by Sam Horowitz. Over the years, Sam’s daughter and her husband took over the company and grew it from a small ‘mom and pop’ to one of the largest rental companies in South Florida.
In 2012, I was invited to become a partner in the company. This would mark the first time in over 30 years that this family run business allowed an “outsider’ in.
What is unique about Atlas Event Rental?
Atlas Event Rental is unique in that they have a strong understanding that the product they rent is not unique– anyone can rent a white porcelain plate.
With that understanding in mind, the entire business-model is built around solidifying strong relationships and becoming a one-stop-shop for their clients. They treat themselves as the nucleus of the event world and are able to offer resources and connections that most other rental companies wouldn’t spend the time to facilitate. In a sentence, Atlas looks at their clients as relationships, not transactions.

What do you LOVE about living in South Florida?
I love the weather! South Florida is a great place for raising a family because you never have to worry about a snow day keeping you inside and bored.
