NOW CLOSED | As a lifestyle and mommy blogger, I’m no stranger when it comes to attending a press event or media dinner.
But, when an invitation to attend the MASTINO by SoLita Wood Fired Pizza Academy landed in my inbox, I have to admit that my interest was unusually peaked.
Me? Make pizza? I’m willing to give most things a shot, but I don’t pretend to be a Modern Boca Chef.
Unless you give me a glass of wine and then I’m like…”OK! Let’s do it!”
Located in SoLita Delray as a casual, affordable alternative to fine Italian dining, MASTINO by SoLita combines old world culinary craftsmanship with a cozy, casual atmosphere centered around its Italian brick ovens imported directly from Naples, Italy.
MASTINO’s Pizza Culinary Academy was created to teach and promote the culinary traditions of wood fire pizza and they offer pizza culinary programs for both recreational and professional aspiring pizza chefs under the tutelage of Master Pizza Chef Salvatore Campanile.
Owner Steven Dapuzzo, who learned the craft of making authentic pizza from Chef Salvatore Campanile, who also teaches at the Mastino Pizza Academy and is certified by the “Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana” – The World Governing Body of Authentic Wood Fired Pizza.

Steven walked me and my date, #modernbocagrandmom, through each essential step of making a traditional wood fire pizza. We had a lot of laughs…and an amazingly tasty finished product!

How fun would it be to take this class with your kiddos? Here are some candids of us during the “pizza process.”
We also had the pleasure of tasting a few other dishes including fried eggplant and these amazing meatballs…yum!
#modernbocagrandmom and I had a great time getting our diplomas (read pizza) from the MASTINO Pizza Culinary Academy.
The most important thing I learned at Pizza Academy? Always cook with a glass of wine in hand…and don’t forget the extra virgin olive oil. It fixes all most when it comes to cooking.
Ciao MBMoms!
