MOMpreneur: n. defined as a female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur.
Welcome to our latest installment of MOMpreneur Monday, highlighting businesses and brands that were founded by female entrepreneurs and fellow Mommas!
Today’s featured Modern Boca MOMpreneur is Natalie Harris, founder of Spark Invites (custom video invitations) where they make your invite an interactive experience!
Tell us a little about your background…
Hi! I’m Natalie Harris. In 2013, I moved from New York to Florida and co-founded Springbig, which grew into the leading cannabis marketing platform. Over the years, we built a community of more than 50 million consumers, and eventually, the company went public. After that incredible journey, I decided it was time to step away.
But I wasn’t ready to stop building.
Becoming a mom shifted my world in ways I didn’t expect. The real “aha” moment came while planning my son’s fourth birthday party. My husband and I realized that invitations hadn’t really evolved and they were still flat, one-dimensional, and easy to forget. That sparked a thought: what if the invitation itself could be part of the fun?
The idea came to life when kids started saying things like, “Ben, I saw you talking in your birthday invitation!” That mix of surprise, excitement, and personalization was exactly what we were looking for.
And that’s how Spark was born! We turn custom video invitations into experiences that kids (and parents) actually look forward to. Because sometimes, all it takes is a little spark. 🙂
How did Spark Invites get started?
Spark began with a very real parenting moment and every great celebration deserves to start with a little magic. When I was planning my son’s fourth birthday party, I quickly realized that kids’ parties can feel like coordinating a small wedding. There’s the theme, the cake, the decorations, the guest list and then I got to the invitations. That’s when it hit me: this was the least exciting part of the whole experience.
Kids today live and breathe video, music, and interactivity, yet invitations hadn’t evolved. They were still flat, static, and forgettable. So I asked myself: why can’t the invitation itself be part of the fun?
The challenge was getting people to see invitations in a new way and not just as a piece of information, but as the opening act of the celebration. And when parents started sharing how their kids lit up seeing themselves “talk” in their invites, or how friends were buzzing with excitement before the party even began, we knew we had tapped into something special.
From a market perspective, it filled a gap that had long been overlooked. Parents put so much effort into making birthdays magical, yet the very first touchpoint which is the invitation was often an afterthought. Spark changes that. We make the invite itself a moment to remember, something that sparks joy, conversation, and anticipation. Because every great celebration deserves to start with a little magic.
What do you think is unique about your company, Spark Invites?
Invitations have always been practical and a way to share the who, what, where, and when. But with Spark, we wanted to go beyond practical and make them unforgettable. Spark Invites isn’t just about sending details. It’s about creating an experience.
What truly sets us apart and makes us unique is the level of personalization. Parents can upload a photo, a video, even their child’s voice and we pair it with custom music and themes designed to bring it all to life. The result? Custom video invitations that feel less like a formality and more like your child’s personality shining through the screen.
And here’s where it gets really fun: kids love it, too. When my son’s friends started saying things like, “Ben, I saw you talking in your invite!” I realized Spark wasn’t just for parents, but it was for the kids themselves. That sense of excitement, the word-of-mouth buzz, the feeling of being the star and that’s the magic Spark brings to every celebration.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about telling people they’re invited. It’s about making them excited to be part of the party!
Why should Modern Boca Mom readers become your customers?
Modern Boca Moms are all about making their events as special and hassle-free as possible and that’s exactly what Spark Invites provides.
Party planning is a lot. Between the theme, the cake, the goodie bags, and the guest list, it can feel like a full-time job. The last thing you need is another headache like spending hours on boring, generic invitations.
That’s where Spark comes in. We take one of the most stressful parts of party planning: the invites, and flip it into something fun, easy, and actually memorable.
Instead of a cookie-cutter template, Spark lets you create custom video invitations that feel like your child, your family, your celebration. It’s fast, it’s personal, and it makes your party stand out before the first balloon is even blown up.
And parents? You’re going to love this part: Spark makes RSVPs painless. You’ll know exactly who’s coming, who hasn’t responded, and you can even give the non-responders a gentle nudge without sending those awkward “just checking…” texts yourself.
At the end of the day, Spark is like upgrading from a plain text to a movie trailer. You’re not just inviting people, you’re getting them excited to show up, while keeping the planning stress-free for yourself.
And let’s be real, every parent secretly wants to win the “cool party” award. Spark gives you that edge without adding extra work. Think of it as sending a hype video and handing off RSVP duty all in one.
What exciting things are coming up with your business?
When we first launched Spark Invites, our focus was kids’ birthdays because that’s where the idea was born. But from the very beginning, the vision was always bigger. Invitations aren’t just for parties; they’re the first impression for life’s most meaningful moments.
That’s why Spark is growing beyond birthdays. We’re adding new themes and expanding into weddings, holidays, and milestone celebrations of all kinds and any event where you want the invite to feel just as special as the occasion itself.
Imagine sending a wedding save-the-date that feels like a mini movie trailer. Or a holiday dinner invite that sets the tone before guests even walk through the door. With Spark, an invitation isn’t just information, it’s an experience.
And here’s the exciting part: we’re just getting started. Without giving too much away, there are new features on the way that will make you say, “Wow, I didn’t even know an invitation could do that.” Because no matter the event, Spark is here to make the first impression unforgettable.
What do you love about living and working in South Florida?
One of the things that struck me most when I first moved from New York to South Florida was the people. There’s a kindness, openness, and collaborative spirit here that makes it such a supportive place to build something new. It feels less like competition and more like community and that’s a rare and wonderful thing.
And then, of course, there’s the weather. Being able to be outside year-round is such a game changer. Sunshine has a way of keeping energy high and creativity flowing, and it makes everyday life feel a little lighter.
What really makes South Florida special for me, though, is how family-oriented it is. As both a mom and a business owner, I value being in a place that not only inspires new ideas but also supports family life. It’s the perfect blend of a vibrant community and a lifestyle that makes it possible to truly thrive.
