Meet South Florida entrepreneur Jennifer Gomez, founder of the Law Offices of Jennifer Gomez, PA, a law firm that assists families with matters related to wills, trusts and estates, including: charitable giving, retirement planning, pet trusts and special needs planning.
I am one of those guilty moms…you know, the one who hasn’t put together her will or family trust quite yet.
I’m in the process (I swear!), but my 2015 New Year’s Resolution is to finally knock those bad boys out. And today’s featured entrepreneur can tell you all the essential and important reasons why…
We’ll let the fact that you’re not a mom (yet) slide for this week’s MOMpreneur Monday, but we love that you’re a successful female entrepreneur right here in South Florida! Tell us a little bit about your background and how you were inspired to start your own business…
Well, I’m happy to report that my own mom was a MOMpreneur long before that was even a big buzzword!
She has always been an inspiration and my biggest cheerleader. She encouraged me to get out there and start building a business early on, so that I could have the pride and independence that goes along with entrepreneurship. I took what I had learned working at a large and successful trusts & estates firm and use that to give my clients excellent service in a friendly and personal setting.
Since it’s a New Year, we have been talking a lot about mantras or mottos for 2015. Do you have any for your business?
I don’t think people should have to choose between an attorney who can take care of their legal needs and an attorney who cares about them.
I’ll even meet clients at their home or office to accommodate their busy schedule or health issues. It’s not unheard of for me to have meetings while clients are changing diapers, breast feeding or putting Frozen on repeat!
So it’s fair to say that you’re all about accommodating others when it comes to your business. But as a lawyer, are you also able to find the time to give back to your community using your skill set?
I think everyone deserves the peace of mind that comes with estate and incapacity planning. That is why I am a volunteer attorney with Legal Aid assisting low income families that otherwise wouldn’t have access to legal services.
I’m also an active volunteer with Tomorrow’s Rainbow, a charity that provides grief support and equine therapy to children who have experienced the death of a close family member. Tomorrow’s Rainbow is located on a farm in Broward County, where children can interact with mini-horses, donkeys, goats and other animals. It gives them a safe and comforting environment where they can be with other children who have had a similar experience.
At a young age, I lost my father and then my grandparents who were very involved in raising me. This is in part why I chose to become an estate attorney and support charities like Tomorrow’s Rainbow.
That has obviously affected your business…
The silver lining is that I’m comfortable talking about death with my clients, and as a public speaker. I’m frequently asked to lecture on estate planning, advance directives and elder law to colleges, community groups and civic organizations. I’m able to teach people and help them create plans that will minimize the negative impact of death or disability on their families.

“The 2nd Annual Kids Protection Day” is a day of FREE estate planning and insurance reviews for families with minor children. This includes review of wills, trusts, life insurance and disability insurance. “Advance Directives, Wills and Trusts” is a seminar open to the public at the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach located at 411 Clematis Street, West Palm Beach, Florida on January 29th at 2PM.
“Legal Basics for Cancer Survivors and Patients” is a free workshop in conjunction with Tiger Blossom Boutique to educate women about health care planning and their rights to take control of their health care decision making. Tiger Blossom is a boutique that supports women who are fighting cancer with educational workshops, fun events and products to help them look and feel better. March 24th at 6PM at 2700 S. And I always ask…what do you love about living and working in South Florida despite the fact that you were also JUST admitted to the New York State Bar (CONGRATULATIONS!!!)?
I love that the weather allows you can get out in nature year round! I’m a big fan of kayaking, having my coffee outside, and taking my dog Dexter for walks. I also love that south Florida has influences from so many cultures. You can eat any type of cuisine, listen to any type of music, and see any type of art all in one day.
