When you receive a $100,000 grant from Florida Blue for your program that helps children learn to swim in Boca, you know you must be doing something right! Yes, it happened. And now this funding will allow the South Palm Beach County YMCA to provide free swim lessons and mobile aquatics programs for more than 5,000 children and families through the Y’s Safety Around Water program.
Drowning Prevention programs like the Y’s help to combat incidents of drowning within our most vulnerable population: children. I can’t stand to hear another sad story of a child drowning in our area, can you?
Why the Y is the Best Place to Learn to Swim in Boca
A leader in water safety and swim instruction, the Y’s Safety Around Water program is not only designed to help children learn to swim in Boca, but how to:
- Reach the water’s surface if submerged
- Safely reach the edge of a pool
- Exit any body of water
- Respond to unexpected water situations
The program also has a mobile component. Swim instructors travel to local communities to educate parents and children about water safety. They also provide swim lessons in select neighborhoods.
When it comes down to it, swim lessons were some of the most valuable classes I ever enrolled my daughter in. If your child can’t swim yet, get them involved in a program as soon as possible! The South Palm Beach County YMCA does a fantastic job with swim instruction. This grant is certainly proof of that. It’s so important to teach our kids how to be safe around the water and know what to do in case of an accident.
Did you know the Y not only offers swim lessons to the public, but as part of its preschool curriculum too?
