MOMpreneur: n. defined as a female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur.
Welcome to our next installment of MOMpreneur Monday, highlighting Florida businesses and brands that were founded by female entrepreneurs and fellow Mommas.
Today’s featured Modern Boca MOMpreneur is...Renee Concepcion: Licensed Mental Health Therapist and founder of Elevate Premier Counseling.
Tell us a little bit about your background and what inspired you to start your counseling business…
I am a Licensed Mental Health Therapist in both the state of Ohio and Florida. I have my Masters in Social Work from New York University. My husband Derek and I, and our young daughter, recently relocated to South Florida from Cincinnati. We were high school sweethearts and in 2009, we found ourselves being relocated to Cincinnati for my husband’s job. After having our daughter in 2014, we recognized how much we longed to be near our family, all of whom had relocated to this area. When we saw the opportunity to move and for our daughter to grow up around family, we jumped at the chance.
I always knew I was going to be a psychotherapist and (eventually) open up my own practice. Being able to do what I was passionate about and help people was the most important thing for me. That was until I thought about becoming a mommy. I knew there had to be a way that I could do both– have a successful practice and raise my daughter. After carefully building and putting all of my energy into my practice, it was finally successful enough for me to work part time and be home with my daughter.
I have never felt that I had to put one above the other; I truly was able to do it all!
How did Elevate Premier Counseling start?
Once we settled here in Florida, I was excited to begin my psychotherapy work. I took what I learned in my first practice and started Elevate Premier Counseling. I know there are many private practicing therapists in the area, but looked forward to establishing myself in a way where I would stand out and attract specific clients.
What’s unique about your practice and why should MBMom readers become your clients?
The most unique aspect of my practice is that I provide In-Home counseling. Being a business owner and mother, I recognize how busy life can get. Due to those responsibilities, we tend to put ourselves last. I wanted to offer a service to my clients where I can provide convenience and discretion. The last thing I wanted was my clients to feel that they couldn’t fit counseling into their schedules. Or perhaps, the idea of sitting in a waiting room put them off. I come to them, whether that’s at home, at work, or even a park!
My expertise is in dealing with life transitions. Life transitions are happening everyday– for example, becoming a wife, a mother, or a business professional. Someone may be going through a divorce, a new job, a different phase of life. Or, they just want a deeper understanding of relationships, desires, and themselves.
One specific area within life transitions that I have immense passion for is working with mothers who feel like they may have lost their identity. They feel defined by their title (mom/wife), rather than who they have now become. There is no greater pleasure for me than working with other mothers to help them figure out who they authentically have become, while balancing what everyone else expects them to be.
I develop a strong partnership with my clients to navigate all aspects of their lives, including their family’s. I am an important confidant for the people I work with; a relationship that most of my clients identify as invaluable.
What exciting things are happening for your business?
I’m looking forward to hosting workshops for other moms in the area to discuss aspects of mommyhood, wifehood, and everything in between. There is no greater gift than a tribe of wonderful women who can lift us up and understand where we’re coming from.
I will be addressing hot topics that we all experience and offer real strategies to get through the “day to day.”
What do you love about living and working in South Florida?
I enjoy living in Florida, but most importantly being around my family! We have such a strong bond and I couldn’t be more thrilled for my daughter to have them nearby. I think living in a place where people vacation can give us a zest to live life well and enjoy our environment.
