Grandview Prep’s The Drowsy Chaperone Coming to West Boca High for 2 Nights Only

Grandview Preparatory School's The Drowsy Chaperone 2026 (1)

Spring musicals weren’t really “a thing” when I was in high school. Boca High didn’t have the auditorium facilities it does now, so it was pretty much cheerleading and football and basketball games for me! Now working with Grandview Preparatory School, it has given me a second chance to be a part of a springtime musical…as a parent spectator of course. 😉 I can’t believe that #dailybocaavery is old enough to be a part of the ensemble!

This year, Grandview is putting on The Drowsy Chaperone April 24-25, (2026)…and it’s a must-see! In fact, it’s my favorite Broadway show OF ALL TIME. I saw it with the original cast in New York City close to 20 years ago and fell in love.

Synopsis: The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving parody of 1920s Broadway musicals told through the eyes of a lonely theater fan known simply as “Man in Chair.” To escape his gloomy apartment and everyday worries, he plays the cast album of his favorite fictional musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, and imagines the show coming to life right in his living room.

As the story unfolds, the glamorous Broadway star Janet Van De Graaff is planning to give up show business to marry her wealthy fiancé, Robert Martin. Their wedding plans quickly spiral into chaos thanks to a series of comic complications, including a misguided producer trying to sabotage the marriage, gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a Latin lover hoping to win Janet back, and the hilariously tipsy chaperone who is supposed to keep everything on track.

Through dazzling musical numbers and over-the-top characters, the show pokes fun at classic musical theater tropes while celebrating everything audiences love about them. In the end, love wins, the wedding goes ahead, and the Man in Chair is reminded why musical theater has the power to bring joy and comfort even in lonely moments.

The result is a witty, nostalgic tribute to the golden age of Broadway that blends humor, heart, and show-stopping song-and-dance.
