Today’s featured Modern Boca MOMpreneur is Lara Greenwood, founder of Greenwood Photography in South Florida, a portrait studio specializing in maternity, newborn, and family photography.

Tell us a little about your background…

Hi, I’m Lara Greenwood, and I’m the proud owner of Greenwood Photography a portrait studio that specializes in maternity, newborn and family photography. Being a mom has shaped everything I do. After all, my clients are mostly other moms, and I completely get the overwhelming mix of emotions that come with having a baby.

How did Greenwood Photography get started?

I launched Greenwood Photography in 2013, but unlike many photographers who start when their kids are little, I actually took the plunge when mine were almost teenagers. As a stay-at-home mom, I was always snapping pictures at my kids’ sporting events. What I didn’t expect was that my hobby would lead to a career. I ended up getting an opportunity to work as a hospital newborn photographer at Wellington Regional Medical Center, and from the moment I took my first newborn photograph, I knew I had found my calling.

I worked at the hospital for three years, honing my skills while also attending workshops and courses from industry experts. It wasn’t long before I decided to step out on my own. Soon after, maternity and family sessions followed, and that’s when my business really started to take off.

As I learned more about the business side of things, I realized that I didn’t want to be just another photographer. I didn’t want clients to book online, meet me once, and then receive a gallery link to download their photos. I wanted to create a relationship-based experience—one that went far beyond a typical photoshoot.

What is unique about your South Florida photography company?

What I believe sets my business apart is the luxury, full-service experience I provide for every family. Photography is an investment, and while it may feel like one more thing on your baby checklist, it’s the only thing that grows more valuable over time. Think about it, your highchair may have been a must-have on your registry, but when your baby turns 25, will you still have it? Photographs, however, become priceless reminders of moments you can never get back.

From a curated client wardrobe and tailored session locations to in-studio appointments where you can preview outfits and products, every part of the process is designed to be easy, thoughtful, and stress-free. I also offer in-home viewing appointments to help families envision where their artwork will go in their home.

I’ve invested heavily in ongoing newborn safety training, and I’m always refining my techniques to ensure your little one is in the best hands. The goal is for you to fully relax and enjoy the experience, knowing every detail has been taken care of. I specialize in creating heirloom-quality artwork, from albums and wall galleries to custom pieces crafted by artisans from around the globe. That way, families leave with tangible, lasting memories, not just digital files.

What I want most for my clients is for them to feel more than just “photographed”, I want them to feel truly cared for throughout the entire process. I get butterflies before every session, even after all these years, because I’m always focused on delivering images that will bring back those special memories for decades to come. Honestly, I think I have one of the few jobs where making my clients cry happy tears is a great thing!

What exciting things are coming up with Greenwood Photography?

I recently relaunched my website for clients to find my photography services for Boca Raton families and get a sense of my studio experience. Plus, I’ve expanded my “Grow With Me” baby membership, which allows families to capture every stage from maternity to newborn and milestone sessions, with special savings and artwork credits included.

Looking ahead, I’m really excited about collaborating with local businesses and family resources throughout South Florida. It’s a way for me to continue supporting parents and providing value beyond just photography.

What do you love about living and working in South Florida?

South Florida is such a vibrant, family-friendly place, and I feel incredibly fortunate to call it home. There’s truly something for everyone here. I love that I can spend a quiet morning in the studio with a newborn, then step outside to grab coffee and meet with clients. And when it comes to photoshoot locations? The possibilities are endless. Whether you want a beachy vibe, a lush tropical park, or a chic urban backdrop, I’ve got you covered.
