Tell us a little about your background and why you decided to start Little Star Creamery, what I personally think is some of the best ice cream in Florida…
Hi fellow moms! My name is Sophie Michael and I am the proud owner of Little Star Creamery. We specialize in high quality, handmade ice cream servicing Palm Beach and Broward County.
My love affair with food started at the young age of 11, baking and experimenting with recipes. This passion led me to pursue a professional path in baking and pastry arts in Boulder, Colorado. It’s here, with my then-boyfriend and now husband, Danny (co-owner of Little Star Creamery), that our dream of an ice cream business took shape. Danny’s experience managing a local ice cream shop combined with my culinary training laid the foundation for our future.
What challenges did you face early on?
Returning to South Florida to start our family, we faced the daunting challenge of balancing new parenthood with launching a business. As many parents can relate, starting a new business and managing children can be a tough feat on its own.
“But with our two beautiful children inspiring us, we embraced the mantra, ‘If not now, when?’” and Little Star Creamery was born!”
What is unique about Little Star Creamery and why should Modern Boca Mom readers (and their children) become your customers?
We can’t wait for everyone to try our ice cream! As a local business, we take great pride in our ice cream. We don’t make anything we wouldn’t feel comfortable serving our children. No artificial anything, and organic and locally sourced whenever possible. Our approach to ice cream is simple. Make it fresh, make it with real ingredients, and make it delicious for everyone!
What exciting things are coming up for you and Little Star Creamery?
As of now, we work exclusively out of a commercial kitchen, focusing on wholesale and catering.
We are excited to announce over the coming months, you will begin seeing our ice cream sold in local restaurants. Our catering business has been so much fun getting off the ground. Our beautiful ice cream cart brings an added touch of fun to any event, whether we are hired for a children’s birthday party, a school event, or a wedding!
What do you love about working and living in South Florida?
South Florida is not just where we do business; it’s our home and our source of inspiration. The warmth of the community and the endless sunshine mirror the joy we want to bring with our ice cream. We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support and look forward to continuing to serve this wonderful community.
