Tell us a little about your background and why you decided to open Girl Next Door fitness…
Hi! My name is Salis Charming and I’m the founder of Girl Next Door fitness studio. I started off teaching English online and officially found my passion in teaching pole. With 7 years of experience and certifications from the International Pole Sports Federation and Liquid Motion, I feel like I have made a name for myself in the industry. I earned 2nd place at PSO Orlando and served as a judge at PSO Pacific in 2020. Not only that, but one of my ‘Pole Moves’ has been featured in the International Pole Sport Federation dictionary.
Being a mom does add an extra layer to everything. I’m not just an individual who can do whatever they would like. I manage my schedule and book meetings and classes around my son’s school and events. He inspires me to work hard and show him that you can do whatever you set your mind to.
And it’s truly heartwarming to hear my 7 year-old son say he’s so proud of all my hard work. He is confident this new studio will be successful. We were actually able to build the studio during the summer and my son helped decorate the Instagram rose wall. It makes him feel connected to the company and invested emotionally. My son always wishes me luck when I go to teach my classes–it’s pretty cute!
How did your business get started? Did you face any challenges?
We started as an online virtual competition called The Pole Circus, a groundbreaking online competition and virtual showcase. I started that company because I’m hearing impaired (I wear hearing aids in both ears and read lips) and wanted a competition where we could all be treated equally. This platform aims to level the playing field and treat everyone equally. Offering international reach, we also provide private lessons and a one-of-a-kind virtual summer camp.
Girl Next Door fitness is more than just a studio – it’s a sanctuary. A place where judgement has no power, and authenticity is celebrated. We foster a tight-knit community that listens and cares. Girl Next Door Fitness will never be just about the pole dance classes; it’ll always be so much more. A place of support for women where we lift each other up both literally and figuratively.

What do you love about working and living in South Florida?
Living in dry and lifeless California, I yearned for the peculiarities of Florida. I found myself reminiscing about the snails and lizards that would scurry across the sidewalk. But it wasn’t just the wildlife that captivated me; it was the genuine and down-to-earth people of South Florida. Boca Raton’s community stole my heart, and nothing can compare to the natural beauty that surrounds us.
And let’s not forget about the exquisite beaches that grace our presence. The best part? I’m just a mere 10 minutes away, making my work even more enjoyable.
