I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: No one does the holidays better than Walt Disney World. Not long ago, I experienced Christmas at the House of Mouse for the first time via Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. And recently, my family and I were invited to attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.
Â
I wanted to make the most of our first time, so I did my research before we headed to the Magic Kingdom for this popular family event. Here’s what I learned after attending!
How to Do Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Like a BOSS!
Plan your costume in advance (because yes, the whole family should dress up!)
This is the only Disney event of the year where adults are welcome to dress in costume at Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Now, you don’t necessarily need to dress as a Disney character, but it certainly doesn’t hurt. This family won my personal best dressed award last year!
We, on the other hand, recycled our Pirate Night costumes from our Disney Cruise. 🙂

Time your visit right to maximize your park time
I was a little confused about this before our visit, but you DON’T have to have regular Disney park passes to attend this event. Instead, you’ll purchase a separate Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) ticket and can enter the park as early as 4:00 p.m.! You’ll receive an armband and Disney has this crazy way of weeding out guests who aren’t staying for the party. It’s really amazing if you pay attention! Take advantage of the early entry and start going on the rides and seeing shows in the late afternoon.
Bring your sweet tooth, but don’t worry about food allergies
Since Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is a HALLOWEEN event, you have to know that trick-or-treating is a BIG part of it. Heck- you’ll even receive a bag filled with candy right when you enter the park! Check out the event map when you get there and start plotting your route so you’re able to hit each treat stop at the Magic Kingdom’s different rides.
Â
PRO TIP: Pack a BIG (sturdy) treat bag to put all of your little bags in!
And if you or your kids have food allergies, no problem! Just see a Cast Member to pick up a teal-colored treat bag—the official color of food allergy awareness. They are available at any treat location and at official Allergy-Friendly Centers. When you trick-or-treat with your teal bag, Cast Members will give you a teal token. Later on, you can redeem your teal tokens at their Allergy-Friendly Centers to receive your special treats!
Â
Honestly, these bags are also helpful if you simply want to limit the sugar.
Don’t miss the special MNSSHP attractions
Note the showtimes and note them again. My favorite moments of the night were definitely during the Boo-to-You Halloween Parade (loved, loved the Haunted Mansion ghost dancers and grave diggers with shovels!) and the Disney’s Not So Spooky Spectacular fireworks. I’d never seen anything like it! My girlfriend Tiffany just kept screaming, “Oh my word! Oh my word!” over and over again, LOL. It was THAT good.
Even though #dailybocaavery and I have never seen Hocus Pocus (I know, I know), we really did enjoy the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular. We also spent some time with our favorite characters dressed in their Halloween finest! And remember, there are new attractions every year announced on the Disney website!
As always, bring a stroller in case your little one can’t hang past 9:00 p.m. You’ll want to stay late to take advantage of the low wait times for Seven Dwarves Mine Train. And pack bottled waters! Your sweet tooth will thank you.
Â
If you follow the above tips, you’ll be doing Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party LIKE A BOSS in no time! Happy Halloween!
