I’ll admit it. I LOVE ME SOME SAINT AUGUSTINE FAMILY FUN!
#modernbocadad and I went to school in our nation’s oldest city and our former “college town” has now turned into our family’s ultimate North Florida vacation spot.
We usually head north (approximately 4 hours on I-95) once a year with #dailybocaavery to reacquaint ourselves with our little college town and some Saint Augustine family fun.
We typically rent a beach condo via VRBO.com on “the island”, so we can all stay together and cook a few meals at home. However, there are some amazing hotels and Bed & Breakfasts downtown (cough, cough Casa Monica), so definitely look to see if any sales are going on there first!
Here are your MBMom MUSTS for Saint Augustine family fun (based on our most recent visits):
Legacy Tours at Flagler College
Historic Tours of Flagler College highlight the architectural heritage of the former Hotel Ponce de Leon, listed as a National Historic Landmark. Built by railroad magnate, Henry M. Flagler in 1888, the Ponce is considered one of the finest examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture and they were one of the most exclusive resorts of their day. This is Florida history and learning at its finest MBMoms!

St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park
The St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park began in the late nineteenth century as a small exhibition of Florida reptiles and became a quintessential Florida attraction and Saint Augustine family fun. Today it functions as a modern zoo serving the public and the scientific community with educational shows and exhibits, important research and worldwide conservation efforts. The Alligator Farm’s history as an attraction and an accredited zoo is nearly as exciting as zipping across the Alligator Lagoon on Crocodile Crossing, the park’s thrilling new zip-line attraction. Plus, you can get a refillable beer for cheap. Winning!

St. George Street
Downtown St. Augustine is centered along St. George Street, a pedestrian only thoroughfare where no cars are allowed. This famous street has tons of dining and shopping options day or night, 7 days per week.
My newest discovery? Hyppo Pops. They’re the perfect tasty treat to cool you off on a hot Florida day and located right on the main drag.
St. Augustine Distillery– FREE Tours!
Take a free tour of the St. Augustine Distillery and watch as they mix, mash, cook and distill small batch vodka, rum, gin and whiskey in a historically renovated ice manufacturing plant from 1917. You will learn about the history of ice and distilling in Florida, see products being made, and then taste their small batch spirits for yourself in their tasting room. There’s no charge and tours are every 30 minutes. I can personally vouch for their Florida Mule and their gin.

The Conch House
Boy do I love this place. Great seafood, Reggae Sunday? Many a college weekend was spent at the Conch House. Grab lunch or dinner here and sample one (ONLY ONE) Goombay Smash to really feel like you’re on vacation.
