Tell us about your background and why you decided to start your law firm…
Hi! I’m Jill Robbe Smith. I grew up in South Florida with parents who taught my older sister and I the value of hard work and kindness. Becoming an attorney was not the obvious route for me at the time. However, after graduating from the University of Florida and working in politics and hospitality, I experienced an epiphany and knew law was my future.
I received my juris doctorate and went on to practice with large and small law firms, as well as in-house counsel for companies. I always wanted my own law firm to help others as I saw appropriate. Specifically to provide smart, effective legal advice at reasonable prices. The challenge was to also balance launching a firm with my #1 job–being a mom to three girls. However, I knew it could be done!

How did you start your business? What challenges did you face?
Losing my job due to COVID may have been a blessing in disguise a.k.a. the kick in the behind to make my own success. These days, kindness and truth is the best path forward. That is why Florida Legal Associates is focused on listening to clients’ needs and expectations, communicating with them honestly, and providing options to clients to best meet their desired outcomes.

What’s truly unique about your business?
Florida Legal Associates is unique in that it was started by a diligent, bright mom, like you, who wanted to be successful not only as a parent, but also in her career. My parents worked hard to give my sister and I everything we needed. My mom taught elementary school students and aftercare not just because she loved to teach, but to make sure I was able to participate in every sport I wanted. She accomplished being the best mom as well as a successful, loved educator.
Now as a mom myself, I want the same for my girls. I want to care for and support them while still furthering my career as an attorney. I love being an attorney! Launching Florida Legal Associates allows me to be a mom, attorney and to do my part to help the community.

What do you love most about living and working in South Florida?
We are lucky to raise our three children here because of the opportunities offered no matter the season. Additionally, my mom and dad, as well as my sister’s family lives nearby, which is the most important aspect. Our girls love being with their cousins and there is nothing better than seeing your children happy as a parent!
