If you thought that parents might have stopped saving for their children’s education during c*vid, you would be wrong. 60% of Florida families maintained saving during the pandemic and 24% increased their college savings according to a recent survey conducted by the Florida Prepaid College Board! It’s pretty safe to say that Florida parents view saving for their child’s education as more important than ever. I know I do.
Whether #dailybocaavery decides to go the college or trade/vocational school route, I know she’s capable of any future career she sets her mind to! My job is simply to save for it.
Good thing that Florida Prepaid enrollment is NOW OPEN for parents like me to get started! (Full disclosure: we personally got started several years ago and have two 1-Year Florida University Plans, a University Dormitory Plan and a Florida 529 Savings Plan.)
What is a Florida Prepaid College Plan?
Great question, especially if you are a new resident to Florida. Welcome! Chances are your previous state didn’t have the “longest running and most successful prepaid plan in the nation.” 😉 Just saying…
Florida Prepaid offers prepaid college savings plans that give state residents the option to set aside finances for their child’s higher education as soon as he or she is born. We’re talking the future cost of college tuition, specified fees and even dormitory housing. In fact, the earlier you start, the cheaper your monthly installments are.
When your child is ready for college, the plan pays the tuition and fees at any Florida College or State University. If your child attends an out-of-state college, private college, or technical (vocational) school, the plan will pay the same amount as it would pay at a public college or university in Florida. Rest assured, every Florida Prepaid Plan is guaranteed by the State of Florida, so you can never lose what you pay into it.
FUN FACT: You only have to be a state resident to OPEN your Florida Prepaid College Plan. If you move out of state, you’ll still be able to contribute to the plan as if you never left. And bonus? Your child will be considered an in-state resident if he or she decides to return to Florida for their college or university education!
How Do I Sign Up?
Easy! Head to Florida Prepaid’s website and follow the prompts to select the plan(s) you’d like to purchase. There are several different options available. Plus, the age of your child will be a factor when it comes to final pricing.
Florida Prepaid open enrollment is NOW: February 1- April 30, 2024, so don’t delay! Join the more than 1 million Florida families who have already purchased plans!
