MOMpreneur: n. defined as a female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur.
Welcome to our latest installment of MOMpreneur Monday, highlighting businesses and brands that were founded by female entrepreneurs and fellow mommas!
Today’s featured Modern Boca MOMpreneur is Lori Lundin-Fish, PhD, LMFT. She’s the owner of Palm Beach Therapy Center in Boca Raton and a licensed marriage & family therapist!
Hi Lori! Why don’t you fill us in a little bit on your personal and professional background…
I moved to Florida from Queens, NY over 10 years ago. During my time here, I studied Marriage and Family Therapy at Nova Southeastern University. I received my license to practice therapy and began my private practice soon after obtaining my doctorate degree. It has been an amazing journey thus far.
Today, I work full time in private practice and manage a very busy life at home with my toddler. Being a mom has allowed be to develop a deeper interest and perspective in the transformation that many couples encounter when transitioning to “family life.”
“The more I experienced this transition, the more my curiosity grew. So did my focus on helping other individuals and couples who are experiencing similar life changes.”
In my practice, I realized that even in times of exhaustion and hopelessness, there can be tremendous personal and relational growth. I provide my clients the safe space they need to discover their inner strength and confidence in order to create a more meaningful and fulfilling relationship. My passion is helping new moms rediscover their purpose and find balance in life. I also help couples work together as a team. Through this process, my clients are able to once again feel heard by one another and engage in more meaningful conversations that help facilitate that growth.
Tell us about the process of starting your practice in Boca Raton…
I started my practice several years ago and have been fortunate to have faced very few challenges while expanding my business. I believe my initial successes are partly due to the high demand for quality mental health services in our society. People are expected to go to work, come home and live their lives while tucking their issues under the proverbial rug. My practice fills a need by providing an environment where individuals and couples are allowed the space they need to work on them and build better lives for their future.
What is unique about your business?
I have been told by many clients that they have seen several therapists in the past. Yet, none have connected with them on such a deep level. This is something I truly pride myself on. The therapeutic connection is one of the most important elements of success in therapy.
I am mindful of how this interaction can impact the course of therapy. Because of this heightened sense of awareness, clients have stated that they feel very “comfortable” and “motivated”throughout their journey. In addition, my advanced level of training has provided me with the tools necessary to obtain positive results in a shorter amount of time in comparison to traditional psychotherapy approaches. I am trained in both, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, as well as Emotionally Focused Couple’s Therapy. These are the two lenses that I often apply in sessions.
Why should Modern Boca Mom readers become your clients?
I truly believe in helping others achieve their goals. I believe that all people and all relationships have value. My goal will always be to help people find their own version of “happiness.” I am here to offer a safe and nonjudgmental space where my clients can grow and transform into their best selves.
My job is to help provide useful tools to encourage communication, trust, and personal development. I want to create a positive change in people’s lives. In fact, not only is it my “job,” but it is my sense of purpose. I utilize honesty, compassion, and empathy throughout session in an effort to connect with each client. I genuinely want my clients to succeed and create the life they have always envisioned for themselves.
What exciting things are coming up for Palm Beach Therapy Center in Boca Raton?
I am predominantly focused on helping clients grow in their relationships. But, I also believe in healthy and collaborative separations. I recently received training and certification in becoming a Florida Supreme Court Family Mediator.
An important part of therapy is understanding how to find peace among very chaotic situations. I realized that the same can be true when couples make the decision to separate as well. Divorce does not have to be a long and painful process. It can be carried out in a respectful and even therapeutic manner. In the future, I look forward to continuing to expand my practice by helping more clients find options and solutions for their families.
What do you love about living and working in South Florida?
Believe it or not, I love how kind and considerate people are. There is a very strong sense of community and belonging in South Florida, especially in Boca Raton. That is something I truly value. I am honored to be a part of such a beautiful city!
