Today’s featured MOMpreneur is…Mira A. Hightower, founder and owner of Heather Hightower footwear in Miami.
You’re our first shoe designer MOMpreneur! Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you launched Heather Hightower…
My background is in footwear design, so I started off designing for other brands and then I stepped out to design my own line, Heather Hightower.
I have degrees in Fashion Merchandising and Accessory Design. The best part about having my own footwear business is that it allows me to work from home so I get to be there for special moments with my son, the main motivator behind me starting my brand – I wanted to build something for him.
How did your business get started? What challenges did you face as a first-time MOMpreneur?
When I was design consulting for other brands, I realized there was a void in the marketplace for luxury shoes at an affordable price point.
Everyone can’t afford a $600 shoe, but why shouldn’t the shoes you can afford look just as beautiful?
That’s how Heather Hightower was born. We wanted to give women luxurious and sexy shoes without breaking the bank!
The challenges I had to overcome were my own fears of launching a new company as well as the challenges of wearing ‘all the hats’ in my business.
What is truly unique about Heather Hightower footwear?
I think it’s unique that we pay attention to details (even the box!) and that we strive extremely hard to be personable and relate to the everyday woman.
Why should MBMom readers add your footwear to their shoe closets?
We offer women shoes that they can wear from work to a PTA meeting– shoes that can go from the baseball game to happy hour and make each and every woman feel empowered and sexy.
Heather Hightower aims to be the shoe for all occasions!
What exciting things are coming up with your business?
We are launching our Fall 2015 and Holiday collections along with a handbag collection filled with luxurious leathers and bags with big personalities.
What do you love about living and working in South Florida?
The weather has to be the best bonus for living in South Florida!
I do love the fact that this area is a melting pot of people and with that, you can just go to a different area of town and experience all types of cultures. I use that inspiration when designing my new collections.
