I personally know you through our fabulous FemCITY community in Ft. Lauderdale and Boca/Delray. But for my readers who haven’t met you yet, tell us a little bit about yourself and your professional background…
I’m a wellness champion dedicated to motivating and inspiring people to live life to its fullest potential. With a background as a fitness trainer and a passion for health, I became a chiropractor. I also opened a family, wellness clinic serving the Greater Fort Lauderdale community. While I have not yet birthed any babies personally, I get to spend my days taking care of babies and kids. They all hold a special place in my heart!
My post-graduate training in pregnancy and pediatrics helped me create an office full of giggles, smiles, high energy, and healthy families. I especially love working with children and pregnant women.
As one of a select few chiropractors in Broward County certified in the Webster Technique, I help restore balance to the pelvis during pregnancy, labor and birth. And as a healthcare provider, there is nothing more rewarding (and special) than having a mom bring in her baby for a wellness check-up. Though we are not an exclusive women and children’s practice, I have had the pleasure of taking care of up to 4 generations at one time. I love what I do.
How did your business get started and what have been your biggest challenges?
My career started by working in a high volume practice in Pennsylvania. However, I moved down south to be closer to my family. After doing coverage work in a few different practices, I decided to open a practice out of an existing office, before fully committing to staying in the area.
I would say that my biggest challenge was opening a business in a community where people didn’t know me (not to mention, the lack of capital I had to start). I quickly learned that if I was going to be successful, I would have to get my name out there. So, I started going to every networking event I heard about – breakfast meetings, lunch appointments, happy hours, you name it!
After all that hustle, it was time to build-out my own space. The construction of Dr. Gena Chiropractic in Plantation took close to a year, but was well worth the wait! I moved into the modern, spacious, and state-of-the-art facility, alongside my phenomenal team, two years ago. My practice has been open for 5 amazing years. While it has not always been easy, it’s definitely been worth it!
Congratulations! That’s a huge step! Why should MBMom readers become or recommend you patients?
We take care of many people who operate at high stress levels. They often show up exhausted, have trouble sleeping, digestive issues, and the list goes on…
This is especially the case for moms, putting their family’s needs before their own. We have natural, drug-free solutions for things like insomnia, digestive issues, and constipation. While there is a time and place for medical intervention, our office strives to focus on what allows our patients to be healthier, naturally!
What exciting things are coming up at Dr. Gena Chiropractic in Plantation?
Since building our beautiful office, our biggest announcement has been the addition of a new doctor! Thanks to our amazing patients and their referrals, we have been growing. In order to meet the demand and provide the best care for our community, we happily welcome Dr. Courtney into the practice!
I’ve also been invited to speak on different stages regarding topics including health, motivation and inspiration. The biggest highlight of my professional career to date was being featured on a billboard in Times Square in New York City. This exposure opened up great doors in my speaking career, including invitations to speaker panels for large corporations and keynote speeches nationwide.
Now that you’ve lived in South Florida for some time, what do you love most about our area?
My favorite part of living and working in South Florida is the laid-back, yet active community down here. Where else can you wear open-toed shoes year round? I love that are there are so many events and business opportunities, many of which are health-centered. Moving to Florida has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. When I’m not in the office (or out of the country traveling) you can catch me at the beach!
