May is for KIDS! Sugar Sand Park Community Center will be hosting two special engagements this month. The first? Sugar Sand Park EFK! The 3rd annual Especially for Kids Family Event, designed for kids with special needs and abilities and their families, will be held Saturday, May 20th! Save the date and time: 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Sugar Sand Park EFK – 3rd Annual Especially for Kids Event includes:
- Exclusive “after hours” access to the Children’s Science Explorium exhibits
- Science demonstrations
- Carousel rides with accommodations for wheelchairs and sound modifications
- Glitter tattoos
- Arts & crafts
- Photo souvenirs
- Resource fair exhibitors
- A dance room and an available quiet room
- A food ticket for each registrant that includes pizza from Tomasso’s and a snow cone from Kona Ice and more!
The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) will lead parent forums throughout the evening. They will discuss everyday issues surrounding kids with autism and related disorders. Local parents are encouraged to engage, ask questions and bring up topics of their choice.
Sugar Sand Park Exclusive Screening of SWIM TEAM
The second event Sugar Sand Park is hosting in May is a special pre-release film screening of the documentary, SWIM TEAM.
DATE/TIME: May 14th at 1:00 p.m.
Film summary: Winning awards and accolades around the country, documentarian Lara Stolman follows a trio of autistic athletes as they learn to compete and reach for independent adulthood, as they train with high expectations and zero pity. SWIM TEAM chronicles the extraordinary rise of the Jersey Hammerheads, capturing a moving quest for inclusion, independence and a life that feels winning.
