Top 10 Things to do at Universal Orlando Resort

Top Ten Things to Do at Universal Studios Florida

Top Ten Things to Do at Universal Studios Florida

  1. Diagon Alley

Are you a Harry Potter fan? If so, this addition to Universal Studios is THE PLACE for you to visit. You feel like you have walked into your very own Harry Potter movie! The world of Harry Potter is brought to life in an exhilarating way with all your favorite shops, treats, and characters.

Top Ten Things to do at Universal Studios

Make sure to stop by the London shopping district, with lots of featured shops from the franchise, as well as the Hogwarts Express and some exciting rides.

Top Ten Things to do at Universal Studios

When you are done having fun, grab your own wand at Ollivander’s Wand Shop, and curb your hunger with a chocolate frog.

2. Drink a Butterbeer

*this one gets its own number because it is such an experience.*

Top Ten Things to do at Universal Studios

You have to drink a Butterbeer to really experience the whimsical Harry Potter world. It is delicious, and kind of impossible to describe! It is a must try in Universal Studios, if only for the experience and Instagram photo. This is one of my favorite of the Top Ten Things to Do at Universal Studios Florida!

3. The Incredible Hulk Coaster

I am totally scared of wild rides, yet love them at the same time. The only thing that is a real deal breaker for me is when a ride is super bumpy and rocky!

That is not the case with the Hulk coaster!

This crazy fun ride includes reaches an intense speed of 67 mph, after a speed increase from 0 to 40 mph in just 2 seconds! It is so scary yet crazy exhilarating and will have you wanting to ride again and again.

4. Visit Volcano Bay

This BRAND NEW water theme park features a TapuTapu™ wearable so there’s “no standing in long lines, carrying rafts around the park, nothing between you and a full day of fun.”

Click the link to read more about Universal Studios Volcano Bay.

I haven’t been yet because it is so new, but I can’t wait to rocket down that Volcano water slide! It looks amazing.

5. Meet the Characters

While these characters differ a little from the princesses and mice that are found in the neighboring Walt Disney World, the superheroes and interactive characters you can find in Universal Studios make it an experience of its own.

*Especially if you have young boys and girls. There are so many more options to keep both happy!

6. Explore Knockturn Alley

For a great break from the sun head over to this eerie and enchanted area of Diagon Alley. You get to experience the darker side of magic and explore a different side of this magical world.

7. Hit the Water Rides

While water rides are often not a first choice because you will be wet for the rest of the day, it is an excellent option when visiting Universal in the summer! Not only is it a way to keep the kids entertained, but you can also stay cool when the temperature is exceptionally hot!

*Pack an extra set of clothes, but if you don’t want to bring extra clothes, you can pay for the air dryers.

8. Hollywood Rip Rock RideIt Coaster

When you get into this ride, you choose from a wide selection of songs from all genres that play while you ride at speeds of 67 mph, with a terrifying 167 foot vertical drop and a non inverted loop.

9. Head over to Universal’s CityWalk for a delicious dinner after a long day at the parks!

Don’t fall prey to the ever-so-easy chain restaurants or insanely overpriced tourist traps. Head to CityWalk for a delicious meal that is convenient and fun!

*Try the Vivo Italian restaurant for a delightful ambiance and exquisite cuisine.*

10. Visit some of the more classic rides

While these older rides may be a tad more dated, more classic rides like Men in Black Alien Attack or ET can take you back to a nostalgic time. When you are done with the newer and more exhilarating rides, taking a slower ride back through some of your favorite memories can be a great way to relax and show your kids the classics.

MOMpreneur Monday: Soft Baby Shoes

MOMpreneur: n. defined as a female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur.

Welcome to our latest installment of MOMpreneur Monday, highlighting Florida businesses and brands that were founded by female entrepreneurs and fellow Mommas.

Today’s featured Modern Boca MOMpreneur is designer and entrepreneur Zsofia Inhauzer of Soft Baby Shoes Boca Raton.

Soft Baby Shoes Boca Raton

Tell us a little about your background:

I was born and raised in Hungary and immigrated to the US when I was 22. After studying Hospitality and Hotel Management in Hungary, I worked for years in hotels after moving to the US. In 2010, I opened a cleaning business and grew, ran and sold the business until 2014 when I found out that I was pregnant.

What inspired you to create your company, Soft Baby Shoes?
I have been a runner and a longtime athlete, running short and long distances. Being a runner, I know just how important shoes are.

When I had my son, Mátyás, I knew I needed to provide my sweet little baby with a pair of shoes that would help him develop healthy feet! But when he began to walk, I could not find a pair of shoes that would stay on. His feet could not tolerate the restrictive hard-sole shoes we tried on him. I knew I had to find a solution.
What went into the design of Soft Baby Shoes Boca Raton?
My husband and I did some research asking our chiropractor and our pediatrician what to do. They both came up with the same answer: buy soft sole shoes.
I started doing research online for soft-soled shoes. As a first time mom, I wanted the best of the best for my baby. But, the search proved more difficult than I originally thought. As a vegetarian, I hated the idea of using real leather. Unfortunately, after purchasing a non-leather pair, we even hated them more. It turned out the non-slip faux leather sole was actually really slippery. The other problem I discovered was that the ankle straps were either too tight, cutting into his skin and leaving a mark, or too loose that he would lose the shoes while walking.

So, I created the first pair of what would be Soft Baby Shoes. I borrowed a sewing machine, made a pattern, cut the fabric and started to sew them. The first one took about two days and it looked horrible. It not only didn’t fit well, it was too thick. While making the next one, I corrected those issues. I got a little addicted to the fabrics and the process so I made even more samples until they looked perfect.

What made you decide to create a business out of this?
My son started to wear my shoes everywhere and friends and other moms started to ask me about them. When my friends found out that I made them, they all wanted a pair. I then started listing them on Etsy and we grew from there!
What is truly unique about Soft Baby Shoes?
Soft Baby Shoes aren’t just the best soft-soled shoes available, but with an adjustable strap, they give moms the opportunity to adjust the length and width of the shoes as baby grows. This way, Soft Baby Walking Shoes last up to 6-8 months! Soft Baby Shoes saves moms from having to measure, re-measure and buy shoes every 2 months.

Why should Modern Boca Mom readers become your customers?

Our shoes are made here locally in South Florida. The shoes contain no toxic glue or any other chemicals. We like to be environmentally conscious.

They are all individually sewn and handmade and are stylish and perfect for Florida weather. They have a non-slip, non-skid sole that helps babies to walk and build confidence.

Here are a few additional reasons why you will love Soft Baby Shoes:
  1. Lightweight, designed for Babies and Toddlers.
  2. Soft Sole, grippy non-slip non-skid sole material.
  3. Stay-on with the 360° Elastic System.
  4. Adjustable Ankle Strap® for the perfect fit. Mom can simply adjust the shoes so they are the right length and width with one single knot.
  5. Flexible: provides freedom of movement of the foot, which is crucial for healthy bone and muscle development.
  6. Easy to slip-on.
  7. Breathable, machine-washable.
  8. 0% Zero Heel-Toe Drop.

What exciting things are coming up with your business?
Our spring collection was introduced in March, and now we have our Soft Baby Shoes Boca Raton Spring Sale going on! Keep an eye out because we are planning to have a huge blowout sale from June 1-10. We will exhibit a new “back to school” design in August and introduce Fall Collection in September 2017. In addition, coming in September, we will be introducing an ambassador program.
What you love about living and working in South Florida?
I love the weather and the opportunity to know and enjoy the diversity of cultures.

Modern Boca Mom’s *Best Disney Trip Ever* Guide

Want to take the best Disney trip EVER? Here are Modern Boca Mom’s top tips and tricks for conquering Walt Disney World with your family…

Modern Boca Mom's 'Best Disney Trip Ever' Guide

10 Tips for the Best Disney Trip Ever:
  1. Take Comfortable Shoes  – This is likely my most important tip. From your personal walking-wear to your little one’s shoe of choice, making sure you have comfortable shoes is ESSENTIAL.  Be sure to choose a pair you have worn many times before without blisters or discomfort and that provide awesome support. Disney = lots of walking!
  2. Bring Snacks
*PRO TIP* You can bring your own food and drinks into the park!

Bringing snacks can help keep your costs down and allow more time for play – instead of having to stand in long food lines with high prices.

  3. Bring H20 – Whether visiting in winter or in the dead of summer, I promise you and your family will get thirsty! Bringing your own water will save you big bucks in the park.
  4. Bring it all in a cute backpack – You’ll want to come prepared; snacks, water, sunscreen, Mickey ears – the works. But, you don’t want to lug it all around in a big, awkward bag! Splurge on a backpack. We also recommend bringing a stroller, especially if you have a baby or toddler who will inevitably get tired.
  5. Plan FastPasses in Advance – Plan your FastPasses well in advance and use them to organize the rest of your trek around the park. This will ensure you get on the rides you are dying to ride and see the characters you are dying to see! Modern Boca Mom's 'Best Disney Trip Ever' Guide
  6. Bring a Camera – Or, clear your phone so you have plenty of memory to snap pics! There are so many Instagram-able *and just downright cute* memories you’ll want to record when you are at the park.
  7. Don’t forget to put down your phone and your stress – You don’t want to miss any memorable family moments! Don’t be glued to your camera or your to do list– enjoy every second!
  8. If you are able, stay at a Disney resort– With so many amazing options, the confusion surrounding where to stay is oftentimes overwhelming. But, staying in a Disney hotel makes the experience all that much more amazing. Eat, breathe, sleep, Disney.

*PRO TIP* Make sure your hotel (if it’s not Disney) has a shuttle. Parking can be expensive and oftentimes far from the park entrance.

  9. If you have little ones, make sure they have a segmented day. –  No one wants to spend 14 hours straight with kids under ten at “the happiest place on earth.” It can become not very happy at all! Go for a few hours at a time and don’t be afraid to break for your hotel pool.
  10. Use My Disney Experience – If planning isn’t your thing, this site/app can help you make an efficient and easy plan. It will help you to effortlessly manage the whole trip. Find it here: My Disney Experience.

Now that you have these tips for having the Best Disney Trip Ever, start planning your magical memories!

MOMpreneur Monday: LLScene & Scene Swag

MOMpreneur: n. defined as a female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur.

Welcome to our latest installment of MOMpreneur Monday, highlighting Florida businesses and brands that were founded by female entrepreneurs and fellow Mommas.

Today’s featured Modern Boca MOMpreneur(s) are the PR Mavens of local company, LLScene, as well as clothing designers, Lindsey Swing and Lilly Robbins!

girls of LLScene

A little more about the girls of LLScene..

Lindsey Swing & Lilly Robbins are best friends and the founders of LLScene, a fashion and lifestyle blog based in South Florida. Sharing the same enthusiasm for style and lifestyle trends, the girls of LLScene bring an influential twist to “20-30 somethings” looking for a little more in life.

Lindsey is a newlywed with a passion for innovative fashion movements and Florida State football.

Lilly is a former Miami Dolphins Cheerleader with a desire to further her philanthropic work and brand lifestyle concepts.

In addition to the blog, the girls of LLScene own a full service Public Relations & Digital Marketing firm under the name. They love to celebrate their differences and friendship, which was how Scene Swag, their new clothing line, was born.

What inspired you two to create LLScene?

Lindsey: “LLScene started when Lilly and I both had full-time jobs, so it was very important to organize our thoughts and put together a full business strategy before launching. Because of my background in writing and our joint passion for fashion and lifestyle brands, the blogging side of our business came faster and easier. It wasn’t until we found the time to truly commit to the PR side of the business when LLScene became much more than just a blog.”

girls of LLScene

How do you see your company today?

Lindsey: “Fast forward to where we are now. We are definitely learning how a retail business operates as we open our own online store. We’re lucky to have backgrounds in PR and Marketing, so we’re able to fully market our new line. But WOW, it’s a very different concept– launching a retail line versus launching a marketing and services type of business. We learn something new every day!”

What makes LLScene different than other PR companies in the area?

The girls of LLScene can do it all.

No seriously, if they can’t, they’ll still find a way. In business now for three years, the LLScene team members are continuing to learn more and more as the years progress.

Lindsey: “We aren’t your ‘everyday PR business’. We recently wrote a post about all of our services because I think people are constantly confused about what we do. Because we do SO much.

We’re going to be perfectly frank with you here: LLScene’s blog and social media platforms make us VERY different than your typical marketing agency. Why? Because people care what we are doing and where we are doing it. We have generated a loyal fan base and high amount of engagement on social media.

You hire us and you’re featured on all of our pages, plain and simple. We have established a sense of trust with our followers and will only take on clients we feel passionate about promoting ourselves. We have turned away multiple businesses because they didn’t fit within our requirements.”

Why should MBM readers become loyal followers or even clients of LLScene?

Lilly: “We know a lot of your readers are fabulous local women who love to support one another, so that’s a reason in itself! It’s why we LOVE you and Modern Boca Mom so much. We are local girls who love to collaborate and support other business ventures. We’ve created our business model around fun, fashion and best friends and have established a reputation and loyal following very quickly.

What should we know about the exciting new retail side of your business?

Lindsey: “The Scene Swag line has something for everyone looking to celebrate their friendship and funny stereotypes. One of our most important mottos is: if you’re not having fun doing it, then why are you doing it? We put our heart and soul into everything we do and have fun doing it!”

girls of LLScene
Even Modern Boca Mom loves to rock her “Smart Blonde” graphic tee!
What exciting new things should we look for from the girls of LLScene?

Lilly: “Ah! So many exciting things to look forward to. We’re constantly coming out with new prototypes and ideas every week. We’ve been getting a lot of requests for a bridal collection and a mom collection, so be on the lookout for Scene Bride Swag and a Cool Mom Collection with fun bachelorette and wedding apparel for brides and ‘athleisure’ clothes for all the cool moms out there.”

Check out LLScene’s amazing new line…

What do you love about working *and living* in South Florida?

Lindsey: “Lilly and I both grew up in South Florida, so it will always hold a special place in our hearts. Like I said before, I love how close the blogger community is within our South Florida network. Being that it’s March, I can also say that I love the weather right now, but ask me again come July!

Another amazing part about living in South Florida is the fact that there is SO much to do. I have family all over the country and they’re always commenting about the lack of activities they have in their hometowns, while there is always something going on in South Florida. For the most part, South Floridians love to keep up with an active lifestyle and it’s a beautiful place to raise a family.”
