Boca Raton Pediatric Dentistry and COVID-19 | 10 Changes Offices Are Making

As life slowly gets back to a new normal amidst our first global pandemic, parents are feeling (understandably) nervous. There are so many unknowns when it comes to the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 and clearly, we don’t want to expose ourselves or our kids to any danger. One place where you should feel confident about your family’s safety is at your pediatric dentist. When it comes to Boca Raton pediatric dentistry and COVID-19, your child’s doctor is taking the necessary precautions every day to prevent the spread of infection.

Practices all over South Florida are implementing measures to keep their patients safe. However, I wanted to share some of the ADDITIONAL precautions our dentist, Junior Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, is taking because we should all be in the know!

Boca Raton Pediatric Dentistry and COVID-19 | 10 Changes Offices Are Making

1. Pre-Screening Questionnaire

All parents will be required to fill out a questionnaire before entering our office. Questions include whether anyone in the family has any symptoms or has possibly been exposed to anyone with COVID-19. Screening is one of the most important tools a local practice can use to assure the safety of their patients and staff.

2. Taking Temperatures

All staff, patients and parents entering the dental clinic will have their temperatures taken with a no touch, infrared thermometer.

Junior Smiles’ waiting room is closed until further notice. They ask that families text or call when they arrive for their appointment and will respond when the office is ready for you to come in.

4. Social Distancing

Junior Smiles is staggering appointment times to help with social distancing in the office. In addition, they will be leaving an open seat between all patients to make sure families aren’t sitting too close to each other.

5. Hand Washing and Mouth Rinse Stations

Everyone who enters the clinic will be required to wash their hands. If age appropriate, patients being seen will also use a special mouth rinse to help disinfect their mouths.

6. One Parent, One Child

Only one parent per child will be allowed to enter the office. This will help with social distancing and keep the number of people in the Junior Smiles Pediatric Dentistry clinic to a minimum.

7. No More Paper Documents to Sign

The Junior Smiles office has become completely paperless! All new patient forms can be filled out online ahead of time and consent forms can be sent to smartphones for a digital signature.

8. A Different, but Safer Look

Following recommendations made by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Junior Smiles staff’s Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has changed. In addition to the gloves, surgical masks and glasses they normally wear, they are adding gowns, face shields, N-95 masks and surgical caps.

9. Air Filtration

Junior Smiles added True HEPA H13 filters in their dental office which will recirculate and purify the air throughout the day. These top of the line air filters capture 99.97% of contaminants to a level of 0.3 micron. They are ideal for eliminating most harmful airborne particles.

10. Respiratory Guidelines for All

Respiratory guidelines have been created for our office to ensure the health of our patients and staff and they are available to view on their website.
