Wow, things have gotten real. This last post in my series with Florida Prepaid was originally supposed to be about wrapping up yet another successful open enrollment period. Clearly, life had other plans! COVID-19 is causing even more changes for local parents with the announcement that a Florida Prepaid enrollment extension for 2020 is officially happening.

But hang in there with me. At least it’s a positive update, right? We also have a few others we’d like to share, so let’s slide in, shall we?

Florida Prepaid Enrollment Extension Announced for May 31st

First up, parents are getting a little extra time to breathe with this announcement. The new deadline to enroll in a 2020 Florida Prepaid plan has been extended to May 31, 2020. This is due to the College Board committing to helping Florida families as they deal with challenges related to COVID-19. Open enrollment was scheduled to end on April 30th, so this is a much appreciated additional chunk of time to get started!

Here’s the deal: If you are currently making automatic payments (via ACH) through an online account like I am, the Board will not collect your April, May and June totals. Payments will be automatically restarted in July and simply be extended by three months.

$50 Application Fees are No More (in 2020)

Remember that application fee I (hopefully) saved you back in February? You know, the one that zeroed out the $50 charge to enroll? (Pssst: BOCA1920)

I’m so happy to share that Florida Prepaid is continuing to graciously waive their $50 application fee through May 31, 2020. But be sure to use my code: BOCA1920

Money may be tight right now, but Plan prices are also the lowest they’ve been in five years. Florida Prepaid College Plans start at just $44 a month keeping college savings truly affordable for families at a time when finances can be uncertain.
