Tell us a little bit about your background, motherhood and what inspired you to start The Salt Station…

I grew up in South Florida and attended the University of Florida, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.  When I started my engineering career, I had no idea where my journey would take me.  But, I did learn that I liked the challenge of solving problems and developing solutions that made people’s live better.

After a few years, I met my husband and we moved around– we lived in Boston and Michigan, where I worked at a tech start-up and then at General Motors.  After our first child arrived, we wanted to be closer to family and get back to the warm weather of South Florida. So, we came back to Boynton Beach, and our second daughter was born.  At that point, we had two young children under the age of 2, so we made the decision for me to be a stay-at-home-mom with the girls.

I began looking for my next steps.  My husband and young daughter seemed to always be suffering from terrible allergies and sinus problems. They were constantly sneezing, coughing, taking strong medicines and even missing school and work. I wasn’t happy having my family constantly on pills and sprays, but we didn’t think there was any alternative. Then, through a friend we came upon salt halotherapy as a natural alternative to treating allergies and respiratory conditions.

My husband and daughter started going to a center for treatments and almost immediately, they started experiencing significant relief from their constant symptoms.  During one of our family salt therapy treatments, I decided what my next step would be: to open my own salt therapy center!

What challenges did you face?

The idea was just the first step. The challenges of finding a space, negotiating a lease and overseeing the build-out process were all new to me…not to mention, keeping up with my two daughters and their busy schedules. My mom-skills coupled with my engineering training helped me with problem solving, prioritization, time management and multitasking to get the job done and keep moving forward.

What’s unique about The Salt Station and why should MBMoms become your clients?

Salt therapy is a relatively new treatment in the US, but is well known and widely utilized in Europe to treat a variety of ailments through all-natural means. In addition to the positive benefits on your respiratory system, salt therapy is a great way to manage and relieve stress.

As you sit in the peaceful salt halotherapy treatment room, the salt micro-particles surround you and produce negative ions that have been documented to have beneficial effects. These negative ions help restore your sense of well-being and counteract all the positive ions given off by the pollution, stagnant indoor environments and numerous electronic devices that we are surrounded by everyday.

At The Salt Station, we offer salt therapy for the whole family in nature inspired rooms. In the ocean-themed children’s room, the floor is covered in pink Himalayan Salt, where the children play and adults can relax in Adirondack chairs outside of the salted area.

Our canyon-themed adult room is an excellent way to relax and unplug in our fast-paced world – all while receiving the benefits of salt therapy.  Additionally, we are excited to offer one of the only salt beds in Palm Beach County in our forest-themed private room.  The unique salt bed allows those with skin conditions to receive full skin exposure to the micronized salt during the 15-minute private treatment. In addition, the benefit to the respiratory system is the same as the 45-minute treatment in the adult room.

What new and exciting things are coming up for your business?

As a new and local small business operating in the holistic health space, we’re working hard to build awareness of and educate people on the many great benefits of salt halotherapy.

We’ll be around the town, spreading the word about The Salt Station at local events such as the Cobra Country 5K at Park Vista High School and the Vitamin Shoppe wellness fair. To show our appreciation to our community, The Salt Station is pleased to offer discounts to first time customers who may not have tried salt therapy before.  We believe that the benefits of full body experience will be evident after just one visit.  In addition, we are in the process of planning our Grand Opening event for this fall!

What do you love about living and working in South Florida?

As a Florida native, I love the beach, the ocean and the sun!  I value living near family and being able to spend holidays and regular days with the people most important to me.  Sharing the uniqueness of Florida and the places I visited as a child with my daughters and husband is a fun perk as well!

I also appreciate meeting such a diverse group of people here in South Florida. In the short time that The Salt Station has been open, I’ve met people from all walks of life– busy moms with young kids, time-starved professionals, active retirees, and world travelers.
