Tell us a little bit about your background, mommyhood and what drove you to become the Most Wanted Sheep author! 🙂

I was born and raised in Palm Beach Gardens, but now I live in Boca Raton with my husband and two children. I’ve been writing stories since I was a little girl and I always considered myself a very creative person.

The idea for my book, the Most Wanted Sheep, was inspired by my son. He was chasing a ball through the house, but couldn’t say ball so he was saying “bah, bah, bah.” I called him my little sheep and voila! Most Wanted Sheep was born. I immediately grabbed my notebook and began writing the story.

Two weeks after signing my contract with Archway to publish my book, my husband and I found out we were pregnant with our second baby. Taking care of my 18 month old while pregnant and trying to launch a book was hectic to say the least.

Being a mother is the most rewarding experience and a lot of my inspiration for writing comes from my family.

“I love the fact that I am able to raise my children and watch them grow while pursuing my dream of becoming a children’s book author.”

How did you publish your book? Did you face many challenges?

Publishing a book is extremely difficult because publishers won’t accept unsolicited manuscripts. Agents are not quick to work with new writers who have never been published before and the market is saturated with people trying to make it big as authors.

For years I sent out my manuscripts to publishers only to receive rejection letter after rejection letter. Then after much research, I decided to self-publish through Archway Publishing, which is a subsidiary of Simon and Schuster. This means that I had to come up with the initial investment for the project, create my own marketing campaign on a local and national level and gain exposure for the book as a one woman show and Most Wanted Sheep author!

What is your biggest goal for your first book?

My passion for writing started at an early age when I could pick up a pencil and write. My parents placed an importance on reading and helped me harness my aptitude for writing. I want to encourage that in children and inspire them to dream, imagine, read and write. My goal is to positively influence children through my writing as the Most Wanted Sheep author.

I even dress up as the main character, Woolard, to show kids that reading can be fun and creative!

Why do you think MBMom readers should purchase your book for their kids?

Most Wanted Sheep is a fun and educational story parents can use to teach children about counting from 1-10 and colors. This is the first book in the series of Woolard’s adventures.

“With support, starting with my local community, I know I will be able to make my dream of becoming a successful children’s book author a reality while inspiring kids and influencing their lives in a positive way.”

What exciting things are coming up for you and Woolard?

I’m working on the second book in the series and created a Kickstarter campaign to help fund it. I’m excited to get people involved in my project. I’m also planning on dressing as Woolard’s character and visiting children’s hospitals, schools and libraries and read my stories to kids in our area.

What do you love about living and working in South Florida?

We have great weather, great food and great people. There is a certain energy about South Florida. I love wearing flip flops in January, boating year-round, 30 second rainstorms and Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. I feel like we have a great community for local entrepreneurs to become successful and I am excited to be a part of that, share my work with everyone, and become a MOMpreneur in South Florida!
